Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) is the key to unlocking integrated, two-way digital communications in healthcare. As a cloud-based delivery model, CPaaS enables healthcare providers to add real-time communication capabilities such as voice, video, and messaging to their own applications through the integration and use of APIs. Leveraging our UK sovereign cloud hosted platform on which to base our services, our solution delivers secure, reliable, feature-rich services, providing a simple user experience regardless of the user device of choice or location; including clinicians working from home.

For a long time, we have argued that the critical communications services, especially within a healthcare environment, should not be consumed from public cloud services or via the Internet. Today, we stand by our belief that the critical telephony services provided into acute hospitals and community services need to be robust, easy to use and always available. These include the telephone handsets in wards, red phones and patient facing services and contact centres. That said, there are a wide range of users where a desktop unified communications service, which includes telephony, messaging desktop sharing and video conferencing adds significant value.

Whilst the healthcare solutions Cinos offer predominately focus on the internal infrastructure, connectivity, and collaboration requirements of the NHS we wanted to offer more. We wanted to create a platform that enables citizens and patients to easily connect with public sector organisations, that integrates seamlessly with clinical record systems and that is truly integrated with our Managed MDT Service.

So, in 2017 we launched Refero; a platform of engagement for public services utilising video and voice technology. Refero helps patients better communicate with clinicians or enables students to get the mental and physical support they need from specialist services. Refero has also been used to provide a platform of engagement for vulnerable children and adults, connecting them with their support networks.
